According to official measurements by the China Earthquake Networks Center, a 4.5-magnitude earthquake struck Yingjiang County in Dehong Prefecture, Yunnan Province, at 9:00 a.m. on May 16. The earthquake had a focal depth of 10 kilometers, with the epicenter located at 25.12 degrees north latitude and 98.13 degrees east longitude. The epicenter is 38 kilometers from Tengchong City, 51 kilometers from Yingjiang County’s urban center, and 89 kilometers from Mangshi City.

The Yunnan Provincial Earthquake Administration immediately activated a Level IV emergency response. Using the “first responders” emergency team, they gathered information on the disaster situation and dispatched a four-person team from the Tengchong Earthquake Monitoring Center Station to the affected area to conduct damage assessments and mobile earthquake monitoring.

Preliminary investigations indicate that some houses in Zhanxi Town and Zhina Township of Yingjiang County experienced minor wall cracks and slight tile damage. The quake was strongly felt locally. As of now, no casualties have been reported, and further assessments of the disaster are ongoing.
